Understanding the NDAA

The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2019, signed into law on August 13, 2018, and effective from August 2019, is a significant piece of legislation. Specifically, Section 889 prohibits federal agencies, their contractors, and grant or loan recipients from procuring or using “telecommunications and video surveillance equipment or services” from specific vendors. This section contains several provisions that impact existing and future U.S. federal government-related video surveillance deployments.
